My Plant Care Journey as an Intern at Dirty Roots Berlin
Hi, I am Sheida, and I have been interning at Dirty Roots Berlin for a few months now. When I first started, my track record with plants was honestly embarrassing. I would bring home a cute little fiddle leaf fig or a trendy monstera, full of excitement, and within weeks it would be drooping, yellowing, or completely gone. I was the classic plant killer, always wondering why nothing I touched stayed green for long.
The Turning Point
Everything changed when I began working surrounded by the sphere planters we create here in Berlin. These handcrafted pieces are not just beautiful, they are designed with real plant health in mind. Proper drainage, breathable materials, and that perfect cosmic shape that lets light reach every leaf evenly. My first task was filming them for our new launc, and I started noticing small but important details I had ignored before: how overwatering sits in regular pots, how roots get cramped, how some plants just need better airflow.
I took one of the smaller sphere planters home for myself and tried to decipher it more. For the first time, I paid attention to the soil mix, the way water drained completely, and how the elevated design kept everything balanced. That pothos is now trailing happily across my windowsill, putting out new leaves like it has something to prove.
Learning from Mistakes
Our plant care book became my nightly reading. It is straightforward, honest, and cuts through all the confusing advice you find online. No fluff, just clear explanations of what different plants actually need, common mistakes, and simple fixes. I learned that my biggest problem was treating every plant the same: too much water, too little light, moving them around constantly. The book helped me understand each plant’s personality, and suddenly caring for them felt less like guessing and more like building real relationships.
What I Have Learned So Far
Plants forgive a lot if you start listening to them. Brown tips usually mean too much water or dry air. Leggy growth means they want more light. And a good home, like one of our sphere planters, makes everything easier because it supports healthy roots from the beginning.
Being here at Dirty Roots has turned plant care from a source of frustration into something joyful. I still make mistakes, but now I catch them early and fix them. My apartment is slowly filling with thriving greens, and I finally feel confident sharing tips with friends instead of apologizing for another dead succulent.
If you are like I was, excited about plants but tired of watching them fade, start with the right tools. Our sphere planters and the plant care book have been game changers for me, and I know they can be for you too.
